  • on November 10, 2019

Perang Pandan or known as mekaré-kare, is a verenation ritual held to honor the God of War – God Indra. This annual ceremony, located in the village of Tenganan, East of Bali is one of the largest religious ritual on the island.

Each battle is between two people and only lasts less than one minute. Both warrior uses pandan as the weapon and will attack one another on the back using the pandan thorns. The blood from each warrior is a form of respect honoring the God of war. The only rule in the fight is that anger may not be lit within the soul of each warrior – prior, during or after the war.
